Key takeaways
Top-performing semiconductor students are selected to receive digital badges and scholarships
There are three badges, GSE, ISE, and ASE, each with its own majors and selection criteria
One design in bronze, silver, and gold makes the tiers clear at a glance
What is the program?
Gachon University’s Semiconductor Specialized University Support Program develops semiconductor talent. According to the program’s digital badge page, it uses several assessment criteria to select top-performing students from its trainees, and gives them digital badges (certificates) and scholarships they can use for résumés and more when they graduate.

How are the badges tiered?

| Badge | Name | Eligible majors |
|---|---|---|
| GSE | General Semiconductor Engineer | Semiconductor Convergence Major |
| ISE | Integrated Semiconductor Engineer | Semiconductor Specialized Major, Advanced Semiconductor Major |
| ASE | Advanced Semiconductor Engineer | Advanced Semiconductor Major |
From GSE to ASE, the requirements for GPA, major credits, and English scores go up, and ISE and ASE add an IAB review. For a table of each badge’s selection criteria, see how to issue digital badges in tiers.
How were the badges designed?
All three badges share one design: Gachon University’s G symbol standing in 3D. GSE is bronze, ISE silver, and ASE gold, so anyone can tell the tier right away. Gachon University is the issuer, and the badges are issued through Certi.
Frequently asked questions
Q
Can the selection criteria go into the badge?
Yes. Write the criteria into each badge, and anyone who opens a recipient's badge link can see which conditions they met.
Q
Can badges be used for awards that come with a scholarship?
Yes. Record selection and award results as badges, and students can show them on their résumés as a link even after graduation.
